Choosing an asset management solution for your business

會員評等:  / 2

Managing assets is a key component to the success of your business, whether you are a small start-up or a huge business. Tracking of IT assets, vehicles or rental equipment, keeping all the assets in check can make or break your business. If you are new to asset tracking or just not sure where to go from there, do take a look at our list that we have compiled in choosing the perfect asset management for your needs.

1.       Ease of operation – Training of staff to use new technology and be expensive and time-consuming. Many vendors offer live demonstrations, or even limited trails, so that you can test-drive the asset management software before you buy it.

2.       Bundled Functions and Goods – Similar to buying a new desktop, many vendors may throw in many freebies, or even a tonne of bloatware as well which you would never use it and in time, makes your desktop very slow. Make a list of the asset management features you can’t leave without – like the ability to track assets by serial number or see assets at various locations – and use this as a guide for the solutions you’re considering

3.       Mobile Capabilities – Asset management software can be used on its own, using a mobile computer or even your own mobile phone! Having a mobile device gives you the flexibility to update asset data while on the go, instead of doing every transaction from one fixed location.

4.       Integration with Existing Technology – There are two considerations here: hardware and software. Avoid unexpected expenses by reviewing the system requirements for the asset management software you are considering. Be sure that your existing computer and operating system can support the solution in question. Of course there are other different asset management solutions such as those hosted on the cloud, available which saves you the hassle of thinking of whether your system is compatible.

5.       Cost – Trying to determine what an asset management solution actually costs can be challenging. Elements that can bump up your basic solution cost are per-seat software licenses, hardware add-ons (like mobile computers or barcode scanners), technical support contracts, training, implementation as well as customization. Our suggestion is to request a quote that includes everything you need, so there aren’t any surprises when it comes to buy.

Choosing the right asset management solution for your business can take time and careful research, but it is well worth the investment.
