At
Inok Systems, we manage all our customer contact information within
the GoldMine system. If it's the first time we are visiting someone,
we frequently find ourselves having to look up the location of the
office on www.streetdirectory.com. With the GM+View tab within GoldMine,
this can be made very convenient by customising the GM+View tab
to automatically look up the map using the post code of the address
kept on the GoldMine contact. The screenshot below shows how it
looks like :

Here
is a step by step way to achieve this :
Step
1 - Cut and save the following piece of html code
into a file named streetdirectory.htm and note the location you
save it to.
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">
<HTML><HEAD>
<META http-equiv=REFRESH content="0;url=http://www.streetdirectory.com/asia_travel/search/?q=<<contact1->zip>>"
HEAD <>
<META content="Microsoft FrontPage 4.0" name=GENERATOR></HEAD>
<BODY leftMargin=1 topMargin=1 rightMargin=1></BODY></HTML>
Step
2 - To configure GM+View simply go to File|Configure|GM+Views
and Add a new view. If this menu option is not available, log in
using the administrator account. Give it a name like "Location
Map" and then do an insert hyperlink (there's a shortcut button
on the menu) and in the Hyperlink dialog box that appears, choose
"file" for Type and input location of html file you have
created above.
<<file:filelocation\streetdirectory.htm>>
Click
ok and you are set !
This
is just a simple example of passing the zipcode variable from GoldMine
into an external webpage. You may apply the same idea to bring up
other web-based applications. You can pass any number of user-defined
as well as system variables (eg. GoldMine user id) stored within
GoldMine to the external applications. GoldMine also allows you
to program rules that determine content on the GM+View tab. Using
above example, if the contact is from the United States, a US mapping
site would show up instead of streetdirectory.com.
