XMediusFAX now supports MGCP with Cisco Call Manager 4.2(3)

In addition to already supporting H.323 & SIP on Cisco IP Phone network, our boardless XMediusFAX fax server now supports MGCP with Cisco Call Manager 4.2(3).

Until now, Fax Over IP (FoIP) was not able to utilize Call Manager running MGCP for incompatibility reasons. With the release of Cisco Call Manager 4.2(3) it is now possible to configure the XMediusFAX T.38 Driver to send all outbound calls to CCM and use the existing configuration(s) to route VoIP and FoIP calls through the IP network. Inbound fax calls can arrive at any MGCP Gateway to be routed to XMediusFAX using Call Manager 4.2(3). With this release, Cisco has made corrections to allow the MGCP Fax T.38 protocol to function with both MGCP and H323 Gateways.Top..

Many organisations now use LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) based directories to maintain their network user profiles. Commonly used LDAP directories include those from Windows 2003 Active Directory, Exchange 5.5 and Domino/Notes. As a result we are often asked if XMediusFAX and LightningFAX can integrate with these LDAP sources.

The answer is yes and LDAP sources are used by XMediusFAX/LightningFAX in two ways - for authentication of users and to route incoming faxes.

With LDAP authentication enabled, administrators do not need to maintain a separate users database within the fax server. Network users would also not have to remember an additional login and password.

LightningFAX / XMediusFAX Enterprise also have the ability to query an LDAP source for inbound routing. LDAP directories typically have several fields that can contain information for routing. For example in Active Directory each user has a field called "Fax" under the "Telephone" tab. This field is actually called "facsimiletelephonenumber". LightningFAX / XMediusFAX Enterprise can query this field to try and match an inbound call DID with digits found in this field

What this means is that administrators can have centralised user management and end users have increased ease of use.
